Back to the roots: Uwe Alzen again in the Porsche

Uwe Alzen, an ‘institution’ at the Nordschleife, remains faithful to the VLN. The 50-years-old will enter a team’s own Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR in 2018 and thus returns to his roots in motorsport. The last time that Alzen competed in the VLN was on 11th October 2014 at the ROWE DMV 250 Miles Race when he drove a Porsche over the legendary race track.

In addition to the experience race driver, the team will include Mike Stursberg and newcomer Philip Hamprecht to complete the driver trio for Uwe Alzen Automotive. In 2015, Mike Stursberg took a class win, his fifth in total, in the VLN with a Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the class Specials X. The 47-years old has, however, mainly been participating with a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the endurance championship. Philip Hamprecht is a true expert for Porsche race cars. In addition to the VLN, he participates in the Porsche Supercup and in the Porsche Carrera Cup in Asia. The 20-years old made his debut in the VLN last year at the 63rd ADAC Westfalenfahrt in a Porsche Cayman and he took third position in the V5.

The team around Uwe Alzen will moreover enter events of the DMV GTC, the STT as well as of the GT Retro Series as guest starters. In future, Alzen will, apart from his activities as driver, also increase his focus onto his duties as Team Principle. “We have this year once again put together a fantastic and competitive package”, says Alzen who can look back onto the total of 41 class wins in the VLN.

Uwe Alzen and Porsche have always represented a very strong duo: In 1993, he won the Spa 24 Hours with a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR together with Christian Fittipaldi and Jean-Pierre Jarier. In 2000, he continued successfully with Bernd Mayländer, Michael Bartels and Altfrid Heger to score a win at the Nürburgring 24 Hours with a Porsche 996 GT3 R. With a Porsche race car, Alzen also won in the Carrera Cup (1992 and 2007), the Supercup (1994) and the ADAC GT Cup (1995).
