Two solo drivers to form a driver duo

Two successful solo drivers are about to create a powerful driver duo. Together with Heiko Eichenberg, Yannick Mettler will start his third season in the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring, their race car will be a BMW M4 GT4 of the Team 828 Racing by Sorg Rennsport. In 2018, the car from the Munich manufacturer made its debut in the VLN at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

“I can’t wait for taking up this new challenge. At this moment, the GT4 class is exactly the right step in my career. Due to the variety of makes in this class and the number of new vehicles, this category will definitely have so much to offer this year”, says the 28-years old Mettler, who took a top three position already mid-January at the Dubai 24h with Sorg Rennsport in the BMW M235i Racing Cup.

“Sorg Rennsport have been active at the Nürburgring Nordschleife since many years, they have scored so many successful results and they also have a lot of experience. I am really looking forward to this cooperation which has already been working perfectly in Dubai”, says Mettler who still was involved in very close battles with Eichenberg during the last two VLN seasons in the BMW M235i Racing Cup.

“Heiko has my full respect, both as a driver and in human terms. We had fantastic fights last year and we got along very well with each other. I am convinced that we will complement each other very well. I am curious to see what we can achieve jointly”, says Mettler.

The driver from Luzern/ Switzerland scored his greatest success in 2017 when he won his class at the 24 Hour Race. In 2017, Mettler provided moreover the closest finish ever in the VLN history (photo finish, seven thousands of a second behind) when he became second at the 63rd ADAC Westfalenfahrt. In this respect, Eichenberg has already moved further. The 43-years old driver achieved class wins in the Cup 5 both at the 2016 DMV 250-Meilen-Rennen and at the 48th ADAC Barbarossapreis.
