Right tyre choice paid out for Milltek Racing

The courage of Milltek Racing to take risks was rewarded. In changeable weather and difficult track conditions, the British team contested the entire distance of the Toyota GT86 Cup round held within the framework of VLN race 8 on slick tyres. They thus saved a lot of time at the pits, and Dale Lomas, Lucian Gavris Lucian and Werner Gusenbauer secured their fourth win of the season in Cup4 class at the 49th ADAC Barbarossapreis. “It was always just raining in certain sections. In our view, the conditions were never so that we should have changed to rain tyres. In agreement with our drivers, we therefore took this decision and went well with it”, said Team Principle Steve Pound.

With a lead of more than three minutes over the new team of Pit Lane – AMC Sankt Vith with drivers Jacques Castelein, Jean-Francois Brunot and Dennis Cassey, the victory had never been seriously jeopardised. Nonetheless, the race in the last half hour got close again. “In my last stint, I had an unnecessary contact with another car. Afterwards, the passenger’s side of our car looked like corrugated metal. We went cautiously to the pits for a quick check. Fortunately, our lead was already big enough to secure our first position until the chequered flag came out”, said Lucian Gavris. Milltek Racing will start the season final on 21st October as championship leader with a five-points lead over the Toyota Swiss Racing Team (128).

The Swiss team finished the eighth round of the season in third position. Manuel Amweg and Frédéric Yerly crossed the finish line in second place but the driver duo received a one-minute time penalty for having started from the pit lane. “Due to an accident in the qualifying, we worked on the car until the very last second. We are happy that we were able to contest the race at all”, revealed Team Principle Hannes Gautschi. “Before the final round, the battle for the overall title is totally open. This promises to become a thrilling finale”, said Nico Ehlert, Principle Engineer Customer Motorsport.
