Mühlner Motorsport heading for the title win

At the fifth round of the Nürburgring VLN endurance championship season, again nobody was able to beat Hamza Owega, Alex Schula and Moritz Kranz of Mühlner Motorsport. The driver trio took their fourth win of the season in the Cayman GT4 Trophy by Manthey-Racing. With the successful result at the prestigious ROWE 6 Hour ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen, the squad from Francorchamps in Belgium is a big step closer to the title, both in the driver and the team classification.

With a time of 9:02,781 minutes on a partly still wet track, title holder and local hero Marc Hennerci previously marked the clearly fastest time in the class. It was his first participation in the Cup this year. Later on, in the race, the Teichmann Racing car with number 980 which, in addition to Hennerici, was driven by the two Norwegians Christian Bjørn-Hansen and Runar Vatne as well as ‘Maximilian’ yet hat to retire due to a read-end collision accident.

The tactics of the Mühler team with Owega, Schula and Kranz was decisive in the fight for the day victory. At around mid-race, they fitted their Cayman race car one lap earlier with rain tyres than their rivals Gusenbauer, Vohr and Grosse of Teichmann Racing. The decision about position three was only taken just before the race end when the driver quartet Hoppe, Jung, Vleugels and Rönnefarth of Tecihmann Racing managed to move ahead of ´Max’ and Mursch of GetSpeed Performance.

With a time of 8:49,613 minutes in lap three, the fastest race lap was also scored by Owega, Schuld and Kranz and they thus also scored this additional championship point. “The race was relatively easy. I was all the time requesting information on the times of the other drivers from my team at the pit wall stand. During my second stint, the track conditions changed permanently. Rain, dry, rain, dry – that was a challenge, but also great fun”, said Alex Schula.
