PROsport celebrates a class win in “down under“

PROsport Performance had travelled to Bathurst / Australia to compete in the 12 Hour Race with two Porsche Cayman PRO4. At the end of the race, there were only smiling faces in the team which is based in Wiesemscheid nearby the Nürburgring. Jörg Viebahn, Max Braams, Nicolaj Møller Madsen and Harrison Jones won the GT4 class with the PROsport-Cayman and finished in a strong 23rd overall position.

“It was really exhausting and we had to fight very hard for long times”, says Jörg Viebahn. “I am therefore all the happier that we finally made it. It was very hot and due to the many faster GT3 cars, you couldn’t afford the slightest lack of concentration on this narrow track.”

PROsport Performance did a brilliant job throughout the complete race weekend. In all the practice sessions, the two Cayman were in top positions in their class. It was then just before the qualifying that they encountered some problems. As a repair of the tank system had to be carried out in the pits, the refuelling of the PROsport-Porsche before the timed practice was delayed. This represented an infringement of the rules and the lap times set by the two cars were deleted.

Viebahn, Braams, Møller Madsen and Jones had to start from the back of the grid but moved up quickly and gained positions in their class. An exciting battle with a KTM X-Bow GT4 about the leading position followed and ended only two hours before the 12 hour race time had elapsed when the KTM retired.

The second Porsche Cayman PRO4, driven by Charles Putman, Charles Espenlaub, Joe Foster and Andy Pilgrim from the United States, also showed a good performance in the practice. After an accident in the qualifying, the Cayman was however withdrawn for safety reasons. A repair of the vehicle until the start would not have been possible.
