Sorg Rennsport wins BMW Cup class at the Dubai 24h Race

Securtal Sorg Rennsport is delighted to start the new motorsport season 2017 with a one-two-win achieved in the BMW Cup class at the Dubai 24h Race. “We are completely exited, it couldn’t have gone any better”, said Benjamin Sorg. “The whole team and all of the drivers have done a brilliant job.”

Christian Andreas Franz took the chequered flag in his BMW M235i Racing Cup with start number 151 as triumphant class winner. The German race driver had shared the cockpit with Stephan Epp, Heiko Eichenberg, the Austrian Michael Hollerweger as well as Oskar Sandberg from Norway. The second Sorg-M235i was driven by George Richardson from England. His team mates were the native Ahmed Al Melaihi, Shawn Peh from Singapur as well as the Spanish Jesus Diez and Jose Manuel de los Milagros. Into third position finished Hermann Bock, Rainer Partl and Max Partl in a BMW M235i Racing Cup of Bonk Motorsport.

With 92 starters at the Dubai 24h Race, a new record was established at the 5.399 kilometres long race track. “This means that, on the average, there is one car running every 59 metres”, explains Stephan Epp. “So we had to exercise utmost care. You are passing so many cars, on the other hand you yourself are overtaken so many times. It is most important to get through without being involved in any incidents and to have a good strategy.”

After having taken the start from pole position, the later winning car of Sorg Rennsport was involved in a collision in the first part of the race and had to fight hard to catch up again. “After Heiko Echenberg was hit by a Corvette, the front left axle had to be replaced“, says Daniel Sorg. “Another collision with a Lamborghini just before the race end did not have any further consequences fortunately. But our rivals, too, encountered some smaller problems which was of benefit for us. After all, we were the fastest and most consistent team.” Over the distance, the strategy of the team from Wuppertal/ Germany delivered a good result. With their perfectly timed pit stops and the fast and perfect performance of the drivers, the two BMW of the “Sorg brothers” were able to take up position one and two during the night and manged to keep those until the finish.
