Impressive VLN prizegiving ceremony at the Nürburgring

On Saturday evening (19th November), the VLN endurance racing championship winners of the season 2016 received their well-deserved awards in the Bitburger Center at the Nürburgring. More than 550 invited guests concluded the current racing season with the official ceremony.

In the focus were the new Champions Alexander Mies and Michael Schrey who won several prizes and trophies. They finished the season as the best driver team in the class winners’ trophy and they also won the BMW M235i Racing Cup 2016; Mies moreover took the VLN Junior Trophy. The highlight of the evening came when the last awards were presented at a later hour. The team members of Champions of Bonk Motorsport and other competitors formed a guard of honour when Mies and Schrey, accompanied by frenetic applause and standing ovations, were called to appear on the stage in order to receive the almost six-foot high Champion’s Cups, presented by Karl Mauer, VLN Chief Representative, and Ralph-Gerald Schlüter who represented the VLN organiser Rheydter Club für Motorsport.

In his opening speech, Mauer draw a positive result of the VLN year 2016. “From the point of view of the organisers, the season was really satisfactory”, he said. “All of the races ran over the scheduled distance, we did not have any serious accidents, the reduction in the numbers of participants could be stopped and turned over into a slight increase.”

After the official part, the VLN family celebrated until the early hours of the next morning and brought the season 2016 to a suitable end with interesting motorsport discussions.
