TCR cars discover the VLN

On occasion of the eighth round of the VLN 2016, the fourth manufacturer will be presenting its competition touring car prepared in compliance with the TCR Regulations at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. After Seat, Honda and Volkswagen (at the 24h Race), the Opel Astra TCR will make its debut at the 48th ADAC Barbarossapreis.

“Due to its cost-effectiveness in motorsport, the TCR is a format which offers great potential for the future”, says VLN chief representative Karl Mauer. “With its concept, it fits perfectly into the VLN and would underline the grassroots character of our racing series.”

Even though the TCR vehicles are equipped with clearly less downforce and even though they are inferior to the other vehicles in class SP3T in terms of performance, in particular the Cologne team of mathilda racing has already attracted a lot of attention with its Seat Leon TCR. One class win and a second place demonstrate the competitiveness of these new competition touring cars.

The action beside the race track will also be an issue at the next VLN race. Starting from 9 am on Friday, mathilda racing will be available in the industry park to provide all kinds of information around the possibilities for a participation in the VLN with a TCR car. Anyone interested can get details on the conditions for new and second-hand cars, on special updates regarding the Nordschleife and much more.

“We still have some driver seats available in our two Seat for the last two VLN races so that anyone interested has the possibility to test the TCR car in racing conditions”, says mathilda team manager Michael Paatz. The team from Cologne will not only be prepared to give information on the Seat Leon TCR but they will also be able answer questions all around the VW Golf.

A potential sixth manufacturer in the TCR family for 2017 is the Korean make of KIA. Representatives of the company Stard from Austria who are in charge of the development of the car will explain in detail the current stage of development of their vehicle at the information event on Friday. They will also be able to provide information on the general conditions and on the supply conditions.
