There had been close battles in class Cup3 in the first five rounds of the VLN endurance championship, but there was not even a moment of doubt in the sixth race that Marc Hennerici and Moritz Oberheim by would this time be the winners. The driver duo in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport of raceunion Teichmann Racing finished the race with an advance of almost 2:15 minutes ahead of their rivals and thus confirmed that they are the favourites for a win in the Cayman GT4 Trophy by Manthey-Racing.
For Hennerici/Oberheim this was their fourth victory of the season and for the team even the fifth. Teichmann Racing already won the second VLN round with drivers Marcel Hoppe and Moritz Gusenbauer and now even celebrated a one-two win. Gusenbauer and Hoppe finished the 39th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen this time in second place and left Kai Riemer, Arnd Meier and Peter Scharmach, the latter joining the team of Arkenau Motorsport in the Cayman for the first time, behind in third place.
At the sixth VLN race, eleven Cayman GT4 CS were involved in the fight for a class win. The leaders in the Cup, Hennerici and Oberheim, already dominated the qualifying and gained pole position with a lap time of 8:47.451 minutes – their third in the current season. Into second position on the grid started their greatest rivals within the Cup, Hamza Owega and Moritz Kranz of GetSpeed Performance – first time supported by Daniel Mursch – into the four hour race whilst Gusenbauer/Hoppe started from fifth place and Riemer/ Meier/ Scharmach only from eighth grid position.
Hennerici/Oberheim succeeded in defending their pole and controlled the race almost as they wished. “The car was absolutely perfect. Our set-up was really good and we were able to push throughout the complete distance. That provides us currently with a small advantage compared to our competitors”, Moritz Oberheim said.
Whilst Owega/Kranz dropped back after a damaged tyre, the situation of their colleagues in the GetSpeed sister car, “Jens” and “Max” (who are also still in a promising position in the Cup classification), was even worse. After an accident in lap two, they had to stop the race.
So the one-two victory for Teichmann-Racing was completed by Gusenbauer/Hoppe and the podium by Riemer/Meier/Scharmach. “Temporarily, we had even been in second position but we had to restart the engine once after some misfirings. We have, however, made a step forwards regarding the speed and collected important championship points again with our fourth top-three result in the sixth race”, this was the summary on the running of the race, presented by happy Kai Riemer.
Willy Hüppi/Alexander Schula, too, had temporarily been amongst the top three and finally celebrated their best result of the season, finishing fourth. Into fifth place followed Stefan Karg, Runar Vatne and Henric Skoog. Mark Thomas, Daniel Bohr and Frank Schmickler in the Cayman of Mühlner Motorsport became sixth. Team manager Bernhard Mühlner said: „Frank was pushed by another car in the first lap and dropped back. In such a competitive championship as the Cayman GT4 Trophy, it is not possible to make up this difference. We are nevertheless happy, one again we improved and reduced the gap to the leaders.”
