A virtual version of the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring will be launched shortly. From this Sunday, the platform iRacing provides the opportunity for computer gamers to emulate their idols at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. The programme includes eight races in its debut season.
“Our users can’t get enough racing at the Nordschleife, so there was a strong request for a virtual counterpart of the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring”, says Tony Gardner, President of iRacing. “I am convinced that the Sim-Racers will be excited.” The fact that racing simulation is no longer exclusively exercised by computer freaks is demonstrated by huge numbers of race drivers who are meanwhile using the virtual world of racing to get prepared to the real races. One of them is Maro Engel. „I know both sides“, he says. „The virtual VLN provides a completely new way for Sim-Racers around the world to experience the fascination of endurance racing.”
