Ralf Schall, the multiple class winner

It was the first race in the VLN season 1994 and the season in which Andreas and Ralf Schall had their first start at the Nürburgring in the DTM-Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. The conditions at their debut were anything but favourable as all the participants had to struggle with heavy snowfall at the Nordschleife. The father-and-son duo nevertheless kept cool and maintained concentration so that in the end they celebrated an overall win. For Ralf Schall this was at the same time the first class win in his career.

“And, up to today, the most enjoyable, too”, he says. 22 years later, in the beginning of April at the VLN season opener 2016, Ralf Schall now scored his 83rd class victory. The man from Dornstadt near Ulm has thus moved up again into the exclusive overall lead of this statistics, holding one more victory than the second-placed. “My advance had already been bigger in the past, then my rivals caught up. Now I am back in the lead”, says Schall gladly. Throughout his career of 27 years in the VLN, he has been at the start in almost each class and thus drove many different cars of all kinds of brands over the Nordschleife.

The complete story about the VLN class winner will be included in the second edition of the Racing New which will be available on-site at the Nürburgring from Friday, 19 April, and which will be published for download on this homepage from Saturday, 30 April.
