Thing are coming to a boil behind the top two

With the ninth round, the ROWE DMV 250 Miles Race on 11 October, the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring is entering into the finish straight of the season. Due to the cancellation of the eighth race, only one result will be deleted in the final score of points for the 2014 season. After seven races, Rolf Derscheid (Much/ Germany) and Michael Flehmer (Overath/ Germany) are in the lead of this most popular grassroots series in Europe. The driver duo entered by the MSC Wahlscheid has scored six class wins with their BMW 325i and was beaten only once. Their advance ahead of their competitors in the championship appears to be quite comfortable. Behind the top two, things are however coming to a boil. Taking into consideration that one result will be deleted for the final championship classification, the total of five drivers and teams are waiting for their opportunities to still gain the title.

According to current standing, Derscheid and Flehmer will delete 8.33 points for their second place at the seventh race. They have a total of 56.98 points at present and their advance ahead of the second-placed Hannu Luostarinen (Adenau/ Germany) and Tim Schrick (Munich), competing in an Opel Astra OPC Cuo, is 2.39 points. Even though in the first instance this looks to be a comfortable lead, one must consider that this year there will be only one void result. Any mistake in the remaining two races can well make the difference between victory and defeat. In addition to Luostarinen and Schrick, Jörg Viebahn (Engelskirchen/ Germany), too, is still in a promising position just as Christopher Brück (Cologne), Marc Gindorf (Monaco) and Frank Kräling (Winterberg/ German), the best placed driver in the Porsche Cup class Adam Osieka (Meuspath/ Germany) as well as Max Partl (Pyrbaum) and Jörg Weidinger (Happurg/ Germany). With a total score of 53.61 points, the BMW driver duo is less than one point behind the second placed.

It remains to be seen who will finally be one step ahead. The ninth round of the season will put the potential candidates further into the focus of the action. And the decision on who will be the new champions will normally not be taken before the final of the season, the 39th DMV Münsterlandpokal on the 25th of October.

In addition to the top drivers, the total of 586 drivers have scored points throughout the season 2014. Not less than 1,145 race drivers from 37 different nations – amongst them 29 female drivers – have competed in the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring in 431 different race cars.

The ROWE DMV 250 Miles Race will run over the usual distance of four hours on the 24.358 kilometres long combination of the Nürburgring sprint circuit and the Nordschleife. The start will be given exactly at 12 o’clock and the decision about the grid positions will be taken previously in the timed practice between 08:30 and 10:00hrs.
