The chances for the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring to finally start on Saturday, 13 April 2013, are looking pretty well. Constant temperatures above freezing, accompanied by light rain showers, shall ensure that the final remains of this long and hard winter will become history in the Eifel region. “We are currently more than confident that the launch of the 2013 season will now finally take place with the 38th DMV 4 Hour Race organised by the Renngemeinschaft Düren”, says VLN Chairman Rolf Krimpmann (Gladbeck/ Germany).
The fans of the series may look forward to an exciting kick-off because the complete action in the preparation of the ADAC Zurich 24h Race, originally scheduled over three races, will now be packed in only two rounds. More than three dozens of top race cars are expected to take up the challenge in the ‘green hell’ and to fight for the first win. The wide range in the field of the series includes at least the same number of cup vehicles of the makes Opel, Toyota and Renault which represent the colourful mixture in the grass roots racing series for which the endurance racing championship stands since more than three decades.
“We are currently calculating with 200 cars to be at the start on Saturday”, says chief organiser Robert Rust (Merzenich/ Germany). “And I am pretty sure that we will see first-class motor sport in the many various classes of the championship.”
The positions on the starting grid will be decided in the practice on Saturday morning, between 08:30 and 10:00hrs. The green light will be switched on at 12 o’clock exactly. The race time at the first round of the season on the 24.358 kilometres long combination of the Nürburgring short version and the Nordschleife will be four hours.
Entrance all around the Nordschleife is free. The admission fee for the paddocks and the open grandstands at the Grand Prix Circuit is 14 euro. Entrance for children up to 14 years is free.
