Start into the second half of the season

The famous Nürburgring circuit does not find a rest these days. Only one week after the top drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and others will have competed at the German Grand Prix in the Eifel region, an endurance race organised by the VLN will finally follow again. The summer break is over and this most popular endurance racing series in Europe will start its second half of the season at full throttle.

The ADAC Zurich 24h Race, too, in which a number of teams from the endurance racing series participated as a test, has already become history. The members of the VLN family are now back amongst themselves which does however not at all mean that it will become more boring. The dominating drivers in the “Green Hell” still have to master five races on their way to the Championship.

Thomas Gerling (Uchte/ Germany), Harald Hennes (Eschweiler/ Germany) and Thomas Kappler (Bad Saulgau/ Germany) will start the 34th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen organised by the Rheydter Club für Motorsport as championship leaders. With their BMW M3, the trio has scored three victories and two second places in the class of VLN Specials up to 3500 cc cylinder capacity. Into second position after five of ten races follow Wolfgang Weber (Vilshofen/ Germany), Norbert Bermes (Krefeld/ Germany) and Rickard Nilsson (Balduinstein/ Germany). The drivers of Mathol-Racing have shown a very strong performance so far with four victories and a second place.

In the lead of the junior classification after five of ten races is Nicole Müllenmeister (Wermelskirchen/ Germany) who is driving the Opel Astra OPC entered by Kissling Motorsport together with Jürgen and Heinz Otto Fritzsche (both from Hückeswagen/ Germany). The trio was able to regularly score points, amongst others with one second and three third positions in the strong and competitive class of VLN Specials up to 2000 cc cylinder capacity.

The sixth round of the season will start on 30th of July at 12 o’clock exactly and run over four hours. The positions on the grid will be based on the qualifying practice between 08:30 and 10:00 am.
