Patrick Simon is the new commentator

The new commentator in the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring at the side of Lars Gutsche is Patrick Simon. Right from the start of the season on 4th April, the team will keep the fans around the Nürburgring steadily informed from the very first minute of practice early in the morning until the prizegiving ceremony immediately after the race. The team is completed by Rudi Seifen who will inform from the pit lane as third commentator.

Expert knowledge meets experience – a perfect description of the commentator duo. Apart from informing on the facts of the current competition, they both are well known for their stories and anecdotes from the paddocks. Gutsche, since 1999 active as commentator, and Patrick Simon, the professional behind the steering wheel, hereby complement each other perfectly. Simon has scored seven overall victories in the endurance race series and can thus communicate to the fans around the circuit a realistic insight into the cockpits through his microphone.

The close contact to the organiser and to Race Control on one hand and to the drivers and team managers on the other hand results exactly in that kind of colourful variety of information which is so much appreciated by the fans of the series. The circuit comments will be transmitted on VHF 87.7 to the spectators along the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Since 2007, they are also worldwide available per live stream in the internet.

The commentators’ cabin in Race Control Tower is full of screens. All of the pictures recorded by the safety cameras on the Grand Prix Circuit are available here. Further screens show the current race classification. A computer with a direct connection to timekeeping gives information on the situation in the various classes. “The most important thing is to maintain the overview of the race”, informs Gutsche. “With normally more than 190 cars at the start, this is not always quite easy, but we know our ‘boys and girls’ and due to many information obtained from all sides, we know almost any time what is going on.”
