Circuit sections
Hatzenbach: A rivulet flowing next to the track, here.
Hocheichen: When the circuit was built, this area was covered by mighty oak forests that partly had to be cut down.
Quiddelbacher Höhe: A ridge located close to the small town of Quiddelbach.
Flugplatz: (Airport) Sailplane airport next to the circuit.
Schwedenkreuz: Old wayside cross. The term was created in the days of the Sweden Wars (Thirty-Years War, 1618 to 1648).
Aremberg: Name of the mountain located nearby.
Fuchsröhre: (Fox pipe) This section was called ‘Fuchsröhre’ by the construction workers as a fox succeeded in hiding in the sewers during the construction works in 1927 for quite a while.
Adenauer Forst: Forest area of the community of Adenau.
Metzgesfeld: A meadow name recorded in the land register. Origin and meaning, however, are unknown.
Kallenhard: A meadow name recorded in the land register. Origin and meaning, however, are unknown.
Wehrseifen: Seifen is the Celtic term for valley.
Exmühle: (Former Mill) Water course of a former mill. Originally, it was planned to erect the start and finish facilities, here. But the owner of the mill refused to sell the necessary land.
Bergwerk: Mine) Up to the 18th century the location of a silver mine but then, it was closed as it proved to be unprofitable.
Kesselchen: (Small basin) The term was created during the construction works as the track crosses a basin, here.
Klostertal: (Abbey Valley) The section between ‘Kesselchen’ and ‘Karussell’. The residence of an order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem in the 14th century.
Karussell: A banked roundabout, representing a part of the circuit.
Hohe Acht: A mountain located close to the circuit. With 746 above sea level it represents the highest spot of the Eifel region.
Wippermann: A meadow name recorded in the land register. Origin and meaning, however, are unknown.
Eschbach: A meadow name recorded in the land register. Origin and meaning, however, are unknown.
Brünnchen: (Little Fountain) A spring area. From here, watering pipes were running to the community of Herschbroich, around the turn of the century (19th to 20th).
Pflanzgarten: (Plant Garden) In former times the location of the gardens and fields of the Dukes of Nürburg.
Schwalbenschwanz: (Dovetail) This name was invented by the construction workers in 1926. From the bird’s eye view, this section resembles the end of a dive tail.
Galgenkopf: (Gibbet Head) The former location of the Dukes of Nürburg’s execution place where the public executions were carried out.
Antoniusbuche: Huge beech tree (Buche). A centuries-old landmark with an altar dedicated to St Antonius at its foot.
Tiergarten: (Zoological Garden) In the old days the burial site for the animals that had died in a battle.
