Renault facing a new entry record at the highlight of the season

The family of Renault touring cars is growing and growing: The amazing number of 24 touring cars with the prominent rhomb on the bonnet will be at the start of the seventh round of the ten rounds comprising VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring this weekend, the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal. Renault MotorSport thus scores a new record, as never before in the history of the Renault Sport Speed Trophy have so many cars entered a regular VLN championship round.

Large numbers in time for the highlight of the season: Due to the race distance and the traditionally full grid, the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen has always taken an exceptional position amongst the races of the endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring. This weekend, the championship organiser VLN will again be able to declare “full house”. Almost 200 teams have sent their entry forms for the seventh of the ten races comprising series.

More than ten percent of the cars which will take the start to the six hours race over the 24.369 kilometres long combination of the Nürburgring short connection and the Nordschleife next Saturday are representing the company Renault. “We are happy to welcome the total of 24 Renault touring cars at the Nürburgring”, Bernd Hütter, chief of the Renault MotorSport project touring cars, informs happily. “This is a new record for us. Although the total of 30 teams are registered for the long distance classification in our Renault Sport Speed Trophy – there have yet never been more than 20 cars starting at one and the same event.”

In addition to the 21 Renault Clio RS III “Coupe” entered in class SP3 and eligible to score points, three further very interesting Renault touring cars will compete in the six hour race. There is first of all the Renault Clio of the brothers Christian and Stefan Benz, prepared in compliance with the class V3 regulations. Furthermore, the two French Renault engineers Franck Grossetete and Philippe Gehin will bring their Renault Mégane Coupé Diesel to the Nürburgring and finally, after a pause of several months for development purposes, rap star Smudo of the band ‘Die Fantastischen Vier’ and the team Four Motors will give their comeback with the biodiesel Mégane Trophy in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring.
