Satisfaction with top ten position
The Wochenspiegel Team Manthey (WTM-Racing) was very much pleased with position nine at the fifth round of the endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring, the 50th ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen. The overall conditions had been very difficult. Racing under these conditions which were abnormal even for the Eifel region turned out to be a true challenge.
The Wochenspiegel-Porsche 997 GT3 R was driven by Georg Weiss, Michael Jacobs and Peter-Paul Pietsch. Oliver Kainz was racing in the Manthey-Racing team again. In the first practice laps of the session in the morning, Jacobs set a time of 8.28,264 minutes which brought the car into position nine on the grid. The other two drivers of the team were not much slower that morning. Georg Weiss: “The practice result was pretty impressive.”
The race started according to schedule for WTM-Racing and the Wochenspiegel Porsche was able to keep the position amongst the top 10. WTM-Racing then dropped a little back when start driver Pietsch came to the pits earlier than scheduled. Although the window on the driver’s side had been removed and the rear window had come off on its own, the temperatures in the Porsche were equal to the ones in a sauna. Pietsch: “I didn’t support any longer at a time. I didn’t want to make a mistake and came in earlier.”
Jacobs and Weiss then fought their way back into the top 10. The team finally lost two positions as the race was stopped due to rain a quarter of an hour before the scheduled race finish, just after their last pit stop. So the Wochenspiegel-Porschen finally finished ninth. Weiss. „It’s a pity, but to finish in the top ten is a good result.“
