Black Falcon closes up to the lead at mid-season
To defend the championship title is back again on the agenda of the team Black Falcon, the most successful team in the two last years of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring as now, after the fifth round of the 2010 season, they are shown into second championship position. Carsten Knechtges (Mayen/ Germany), Alexander Böhm (Kelberg/ Germany) and Philipp Leisen (Irrel/ Germany) brilliantly achieved their fourth victory of the season in the BMW Z4 in class V5 (VLN Series Production Cars up to 2.000 cc cylinder capacity). The trio dominated the nine rivals in their class at the 50th Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen and finished with an advance of one lap ahead of the crew into second place. Maik Rosenberg (Attendorn/ Germany), Emin Akata (Friedrichshafen/ Germany) and Jürgen Dinstühler (Hückeswagen/ Germany) completed the fantastic team result of Black Falcon with their first win in the very competitive class SP3 (VLN Specials up to 2.000 cc cylinder capacity).
After their class win in SP3, Rosenberg / Akata / Dinstühler had all reason to celebrate. This was the first class victory for Rosenberg in the most popular endurance racing series. Akata and Dinstühler have now already scored six successes. The competition in this class which features the highest number of competitors is extremely high and the Black-Falcon-Trio with their BMW 320i is already the fifth winning team in the fifth race. “Congratulations to our boys”, praised team manager Marc Schramm after the race. “They have finally dominated the extremely strong competitors in class SP3 and won their class with an advance of one lap – a brilliant performance.”
“Perfect”, said also Leisen happily after the race. “That was our first participation in a BMW Z4 in class V5 and we could immediately score a win.” The trio had competed in class V4 (VLN series production cars up to 2.500 cc cubic capacity) at the first four rounds of the endurance racing championship. Leisen explains: “On the average, there are more starters in V5 in 2010 and we thus can score more points if the win the class.” The successful crew which is based in Kelberg/ Germany nearby the Nürburgring is shown into second place in the championship table at the end of the first half of the season. “We aim of course at gaining our third successive championship title for Black Falcon this year”, informs Leisen. “The competition, yet, is very strong this year. So we have to keep going and will do all our best to be on top of the classification at the end of the season.”
The Team Black Falcon had entered two additional BMW cars whilst the Audi R8 LMS attended the FIA GT3 Championship in France this weekend. The two Russian drivers Oleg Volin and Evgeniy Vertunov finally finished into place eight in class V5 with their BMW M3. Andrii Lebed (Ukraine) and Kai Riebetz (Bochum/ Germany) had to retire in the first lap already after having scored a class win at the last round.
