Debut in the VLN for BWT Mücke Motorsport

BWT Mücke Motorsport takes up the challenge of the “Green Hell”. The traditional team from Berlin will start at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife on 2nd September to compete in the sixth round of the VLN endurance championship.

BWT Mücke Motorsport has entered the Mercedes-AMG GT3 with number 26 in class SP9 of the race which will figure more than 150 cars. With this car, the team has already taken one victory and the total of two top three positions in their debut season in the ADAC GT Masters.

The ‘Pink Panther’ of BWT Mücke Motorsport will be driven in the VLN race by Christian Hohenadel and DTM star Edoardo Mortara. With his four overall wins in the VLN and two top three positions at the Nürburgring 24 Hour Race (2014/2016), Hohenadel is considered to be a true expert in racing at the Nordschleife. The current DTM vice-champion Mortara has already competed in two VLN races in 2017 and finished both in the top ten.

In the last five VLN endurance championship races of the season, only one Mercedes-AMG GT3 has so far succeeded in finishing on the podium in class SP9. However, this target is not on top of the list of priorities for BWT Mücke Motorsport. In their first participation at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the team wishes to gain experience and get familiar with the challenges which the almost 25 km long race track provides.

Peter Mücke (Team Principle): “The VLN endurance championship is one of the most popular grassroots racing series in Europe and I am very much looking forward for our team to be on the starting grid there for the first time. Each and every motorsport fan knows the hidden dangers of the Nordschleife which have to be coped with. Our focus with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 lies on getting to know better both the race series and the special challenges of the track. If this ends up in a good result, all the better – but that is not our priority.”

Michael Weiss (Technical Director): “Looking somewhat further ahead, the VLN is an important championship that we wish to add to our portfolio. To that effect, our participation in VLN race 6 in cooperation with Pirelli is an important step in our preparatory process. We are meticulously prepared and have already attended VLN race 3 to look into all the details of the procedures. We are of course aware that we cannot yet compete with the experienced teams at our debut; it would be presumptuous to think so because those racing here are true experts and they all know since years the difficulties which the ‘Green Hell’ presents. We are nevertheless excited and proud to make our debut with two top drivers such as Christian Hohenadel and Edoardo Mortara.”
