Frikadelli Racing passionate: With final positions four and twelve at the fourth VLN race, the team of Klaus Abbelen achieved its best result of the season to date. At the end of the 28 race laps, Norbert Siedler and Frank Stippler narrowly missed out the podium with their Porsche 911 GT3R by less than five seconds.
After 16 laps, Siedler even succeeded in going into the overall lead but lost it again due to early pit stop after lap 19. In the final part of the race, the Pro vehicle of the team from the Eifel region fought its way up again into the leading position before they lost a top-three position as they had to proceed to a last refuel stop. Andreas Ziegler, Klaus Abbelen and Sabine Schmitz became twelfth. “Had someone told us before the weekend that we would finish in fourth place, we would have been very happy. Ultimately, we could have taken the victory today, but we had to come to an additional pit stop as our tyres didn’t make it over the whole distance. We will have to work more precisely on the adjustment of the setup to the tyres. We can’t make this from one day to the other, that’s what we knew beforehand – it will for sure take another two or three races. But I can imagine that we will still make it on top of the podium this year”, said Norbert Siedler.
Frikadelli Racing had to different tyre strategies for their two 911 GT3 R in this race. The car finishing in twelfth place was running on Hankook tyres from the Korean manufacturer whilst the Porsche which took fourth place used Falken tyres. “Positions four and twelve are completely ok for me. We started this race with new tyre partners, so we didn’t have that much experience of course, otherwise a better result would have been possible. We will continue to use the Falken tyres for our Porsche number 31 for the remainder of the season. For our other car, we will compare and try new tyre makes in the races to come. Our target: We want to be perfectly positioned in this field for next season”, explained Team Principle Klaus Abbelen.
