The VLN season opener impressed across the board. The tens of thousands of fans who travelled to the Eifel race track for the 63rd ADAC Westfalenfahrt were absolutely excited about the impressive grid with the total of 188 starters and the perfect weather conditions with bright sunshine. And the motorsport action provided at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, too, was more than impressive. In addition to the winners of Manthey Racing, many other drivers improved their personal VLN statistics.
In one of the VLN statistics, a change in the top position is imminent. Ralf Schall took a win in group H with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup together with Christopher Gerhard. Schall who has now 53 victories in his list of records thus draws level with the unforgettable Edgar Dören (left side on the photo). “Mr. VLN”, as Dören was called by many people, passed away in 2004 – he has been in the unchallenged lead of the VLN statistics for 15 years.
Rudi Adams celebrated his silver jubilee in relation to class wins. Together with Thomas Jäger in the BMW M235i Racing Cup, he took the 25th class victory in his VLN career. A result that will definitely stay in his memory for a long time because, after four hours race time, Adams crossed the finish line in the BMW of the Team Scheid-Honert Motorsport with the razor-thin advance of only seven thousands of a second ahead of the second-placed.
Not less than five drivers could score a ‘jubilee figure’ regarding their number of class wins at this first of the nine races in the 2017 season: Adam Osieka (class SP7, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup), Claudius Karch (V6, Porsche Cayman S) and Carsten Erpenbach (V2T, Renault Megane RS) each celebrated their 20th class win and Marcel Belka (SP6, Porsche 911 GT3) and Gerrit Holthaus (SP3, Renault Clio RS) their tenth respectively.
With the class wins scored by Erpenbach and Holthaus, Renault was furthermore able to celebrate the 200th victory at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
