Together with Bentley, ABT Sportsline will this year again take up one of the biggest challenges in international motorsports: As Bentley Team Abt, the team from Kempten in Bavaria/ Germany will start at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The crews in the two Continental GT3 will be a mix of experienced drivers and youngsters: Christopher Brück, Christer Jöns, Christian Menzel and Jordan Pepper will be part of the team. They will be joined by Nico Verdonck from Belgium and by the race winner of 2014, Christian Mamerow (Germany). The driver sextet will have its first appearance at the season opener on 25th March.
“Last year, in just our second participation at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, we finished in seventh place and thus achieved our target to score a top ten result”, says Bentley Director of Motorsport Brian Gush. “We aim to go even higher this year. And thanks to the strong partnership between Bentley and ABT Sportsline, I am confident that we will achieve an excellent result.”
The tasks in the current preparation of the Bentley Continental GT3 at the premises of ABT Sportline in Kempten / Bavaria are shared amongst Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Abt, Sports Director Thomas Biermaier and the Head of Sports Marketing Harry Unflath. In addition to the Formula E race series and their role as Audi factory team in the DTM, the project Nordschleife with Bentley represents the third huge motorsport engagement within the programme of the Bavarian racing team.
“We are fully concentrated onto the ‘project Nordschleife’ and will tackle it with great respect but at the same time with great anticipation”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. Abt Sportsline started at the 24h Race for the first time in 1999. “Bentley is a successful brand rich in tradition – we are really looking forward to take up this huge motor sports challenge once again all together. You cannot predict anything with regard to the classical Eifel long-distance race but we will do everything to ensure that our team and our drivers will be prepared as perfectly as possible.”
After the VLN season opener on 25th March, the Bentley Team ABT will also compete in the second VLN race on 8th April.
