Cup 5: Schrey and Mies make the impossible possible

Currently, they make the impossible possible. Alexander Mies and Michael Schrey have every time been largely pulling away from their competitors in the first three races of the VLN endurance racing championship. Mid-May, the duo in the BMW M235i Racing Cup of Bonk Motorsport celebrated their third victory in a row and this in a class which is considered to be the perhaps most competitive one in the VLN series. The BMW M235i Racing Cup was moreover the biggest class in the field at the 58th ADAC ACAS H&R Cup. However, once again Mies and Schrey showed not at all impressed by this high concentration both in quality and quantity. They crossed the finish line once more as fastest Cup 5 car and went into the lead of the VLN championship classification at the same time.

“We had to fight hard from the first up to the last lap”, said a happy Schrey at the finish. The times scored in the practice already indicated why this was the case. The total of 21 Cup 5 cars took the start to the Nürburgring Nordschleife on Saturday morning and the top seven of them were separated by only four seconds. The time of 9:08.707 minutes was enough for the Bonk duo to achieve second position on the grid. “These times demonstrate in an impressive way how balanced the performances in the Cup are”, said Schrey.

The running of the four hour race was accordingly dramatic. Always part of the top group were the Bonk-BMW as well as Thomas Jäger and Rudi Adams in the Cup car of the Team Scheid-Honert Motorsport who have turned out to be the strongest rivals so far in the current season. The duo in the so-called ‘Eifel-Blitz’ again was a hard nut to crack and kept close to Schrey and Mies up to the very last lap. Finally, they did not succeed in beating Schrey and Mies who finished with an advance of about 37 seconds. “A great race for both of them and they can now be considered as one of the favourites”, praised team manager Michael Bonl. “But there is a long way to go.”
