VLN-Cups: Opel Astra OPC-Cup

With the Opel Astra OPC Cup, another single-make cup will start its fourth season in 2016. Since the series was introduced in 2013, it has become a true highlight within the VLN. All of the races figured close and exciting fights and the decision in the fight for the title was always taken as late as in the season finale. So the persons in charge of Opel Motorsport decided to organise the Cup for another year. The technical specification of the 320 HP strong Opel GTC OPC will be unmodified for the new season. “We thus satisfy the demands of our teams who wish to continue competing at the Nürburgring with their race cars. We are also aware of the popularity the Cup enjoys with the many fans at the Nordschleife”, says Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott. “The Nordschleife has always been of particular significance for Opel Motorsport. So Opel strives to maintain a medium and long-term presence at this most beautiful and most difficult race track of the world.”

With the Porsche Carrera Cup, the VLN figures yet a fifth Cup class within its series. There is, however, not a separate Cup classification but it represents a catch-all category for all teams and drivers who wish to compete with their Porsche Carrera Cup models from the various racing series, such as for example the Porsche Supercup or the national Carrera Cups, also at the Nordschleife.
