Several spectators were injured in an accident that occurred during the opening round of the VLN endurance racing championship on Saturday. Despite the rescue provisions that were promptly initiated, one of the spectators passed away in the Medical Center at the circuit. The other injured spectators were brought to the hospital for further medical attendance. The race was stopped to provide quick access for the rescue teams to the place of accident. The race was not restarted.
A participating car had come off the track in the section ‘Flugplatz’ for yet unknown reasons and stopped behind the track safety installations.
VLN and the race organiser are deeply touched and their thoughts are with the families and friends of the accident victims.
