Johannes Scheid optimistic

The 2009 season of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft will start in a few weeks time on 28th March with the test and set-up sessions at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. One of the regular participants will be the BMW M3 GTS, meanwhile well-known as “Eifelblitz”, of the team Scheid-Motorsport from Kottenborn.

After a very successful season 2008 with two places on the podium, the sixth place overall at the 24h Race and an excellent 2nd position in the Top 20 Cup, which demonstrated that the “Eifelblitz is quick enough to achieve top positions but that it is also reliable, there was nevertheless a lot to be done for Johannes Scheid in winter. The five times Champion of the endurance race championship spent a lot of time in the further development of the M3 during winter time. “I have in particular worked on the new front axle from which I expect a lot”, says Scheid.

The long-time engine partner FEV Racing from Aachen has meanwhile also started to work on the 8 cylinder engine. “Our main work currently is the mapping adjustment”, explains Scheid. “I have full confidence in the team and am sure that I will have an excellent engine again under the new regulations.”

There will however be changes for Scheid Motorsport regarding the drivers. The regular driver of many years Oliver Kainz decided last minute to change make and cancelled his participation for the Team Scheid in the new season. “This is of course a pity as during the past seven years Oliver Kainz has not only become an expert of the Nordschleife but he has always been a good friend, too”, says Scheid. “We wish Oliver Kainz of course good luck for his new challenges and are looking forward to exciting battles on the track.”

Due to this last minute cancellation, Kainz has not yet been replaced in the “Eifelblitz” for the season 2009. “I am of course in contact with one or the other who is interested but the whole thing is not that easy”, informs Scheid. “I am however very confident that on 28th of March we will bring a very promising package to our pit number 6 at the Nürburgring, with a powerful car and a top driver.”
